Recommended Pairing Programs

  • MacMahon: MacMahon is a Java-based program by Christoph Gerlach for managing Go tournaments using McMahon or Swiss system. It computes pairings via a cost function reflecting the MacMahon system and then applies Edmonds' maximum weight perfect matching algorithm to find an optimal pairing each round.
  • Open Gotha Custom: Open Gotha Custom is a community-maintained fork of Open Gotha by Krzysztof Bozek that adds small improvements and bug fixes while keeping compatibility with the original program’s data and workflows. It is distributed as an updated opengotha.jar or full package, intended as a drop-in replacement where the original is no longer actively developed.
  • Pairgoth: Pairgoth is a modern Go tournament pairing engine developed as the successor to Open Gotha, aiming to streamline tournament management with a more up-to-date architecture and interface. It focuses on flexible, automated pairing for Go, and has already been used in major events such as the KPMC in 2024.

On April 4th, 2021, the EGD changed the rating algorithm. You can read more about it on goratings.eu. We will update / rewrite the EGD documentation accordingly soon!

Any questions just send us an email [email protected].

The rating floor has moved from 20 kyu to 30 kyu. Please tell players with the old 20 kyu floor to correct their rank. We will soon implement a Downward Rating Reset so these players also get the correct rating. Ranks from the past won't be changed as it is technically kind of impossible to do this in hindsight.
