This privacy policy applies to the official database of go tournaments in Europe
at www.europeangodatabase.eu. This policy
describes exactly what personal data we collect, and the purpose it is collected for. You
will also find out what rights you have and how you can exercise them.
If you have any questions about the processing of your personal data by us or about
data protection in general, you can reach us using egd@europeangodatabase.eu.
This policy applies to you if you are either:
a) a visitor to this webpage
b) a player who has participated in an event which has been submitted to us
c) an admin and are submitting tournament results to our system
References to we, our or us in this privacy policy are to the European Go Database (EGD).
Your rights
When we process your personal data, you have following rights:

If you wish to exercise any of the rights listed above, you can contact us using
egd@europeangodatabase.eu. For your
protection and the protection of all our users, we may need to request certain information
from you to help us confirm your identity before we can respond to the above requests.
We will respond to requests as soon as reasonably possible. Should we not be able to respond
to your request within 30 days after receiving your request, we will inform you in writing
within 30 days of the time by which we will be able to respond to your request. If we are
unable to make a correction requested by you, we shall generally inform you of the reasons
why we are unable to do so.
Collection and storage of personal data as well as type and purpose of their use
a) When visiting the website
When you visit our website, information is automatically sent to our website server by
the browser used on your end device. This information is temporarily stored in a log file.
The following information is collected without your intervention and stored until it is
automatically deleted:
- IP address of the requesting computer
- date and time of access
- name and URL of the file accessed
- website from which the access was made (referrer URL)
- the browser used and, if applicable, the operating system of your computer as well as
the name of your access provider
b) Personal data of players on the European Go Database (EGD)
EGD is a project aiming to make available to the European go community an easily browsable
database containing data from all tournaments played in Europe. We process this data to calculate
a rating for each player. This rating is used in seeding players in tournaments, to select players
for qualification in national or international tournaments and to rank a player according to his
rating with Kyu and Dan, the traditional rank system of the game of go.
If you are a player who has competed in an event submitted to us we obtain the following personal
information from you:
- name
- rank
- club affiliation
- country (of the club or nationality of the player)
- records of results
This data is shown publicly e.g. on the players' profile page or on the tournament result page.
We don't store additional data of a player, except if a player themselves provides it to us directly e.g. the profile photo.
We have a legitimate interest in retaining this data as an historical record.
c) Admin account
If you register as an Admin on EGD, we will request your full name, email address and a login ID.
The entry of your data is encrypted so that third parties cannot read your data when
it is entered. We use cookies in our admin area. Cookies are small text files that are
stored on your end device and saved by your browser, they are needed to authenticate you and to
pass the submitted data from one wizard page to the other.
When submitting a tournament the admin users should always comply with the
Tournament Conformity Declaration (TCD).
Special categories of personal information
We do not collect special category information about you.
Web Host
To run our website, we use a virtual private server from Aruba S.p.A.
Updating your information
If you believe that the information we hold about you is inaccurate and want to request its
rectification, deletion, or object to its processing, please do so by contacting us using
egd@europeangodatabase.eu.
Transfer of data
We do not transfer your personal data to third parties. We will only pass on general data like
numbers of players by country and in case players' data is transferred it will always be fully anonymised.
